Bette Davis Scholarship Award

"The School of Theatre heartedly congratulate Katherine Schaber on receiving the Bette Davis Scholarship. Katie is an exemplary student of curiosity, collaboration, commitment and communal generosity. Within the student is a human being whose love for learning, for growing, for creating and for expressing seamlessly translates into the actions of her presence in time and space. Bette Davis once remarked that 'without wonder and insight, acting is just a trade.' Katherine embodies wonder to locate insights to fuel her very being as an artist and as a human being and because of that, the material and environment she engages with becomes richer. She lights up the space with her genuine vibrant personality, professional demeanor and passionate voice to ensure that theatre making is not only a channel in which we can create stories but embody them as well…to move others. The SOT community is grateful for witnessing her growth at BU and look forward to witnessing her continual progression in the days ahead."

Sidney Friedman Award

“Katie is student who has consistently demonstrated a maturity and focus in her work that is nothing short of remarkable. She is one of the most hard-working and prepared students I’ve ever encountered, and her diligence and commitment is matched equally by her many gifts and talents as an actor. Like Sidney himself, Katie’s seriousness of purpose is never at counter-purpose with her tremendous capacity for “serious play” and she is always, only, a complete joy to spend time with in the classroom and in rehearsal. I cannot think of a more deserving recipient of this prize.”
